white embroidered guest book

white embroidered Coptic bound guest book by Kaija Rantakari / paperiaarre.com Unique wedding guest books are one of my most popular items and it's always a delight to come up with new ones. I had a quiet week, mostly spent it in bed with a cold and lots of time to plan new book projects. So, as soon as I was able to get back to the studio (so very far at the opposite end of the apartment) I got to work on this white beauty.

About a week ago my mother-in-law stopped by for book shopping, and I was reminded of one all time favourite of mine she'd bought from me some years ago. It's often my inspiration, even though it can never be reproduced.

Floral journal made from a repurposed vintage tablecloth. Handmade by Kaija Rantakari, 2014 / paperiaarre.com

This book was made using a colourful family heirloom antique tablecloth that had gotten partially torn and ruined. I still have the ruined half waiting for me to find a way to repurpose it. Ever since finishing this first floral book I've been on the lookout for beautiful tablecloths to turn into books. Last week I got lucky and this beautiful white-on-white tablecloth fell on my path.

All four corners have pretty floral embroidery, so, I expect three more books out of this one later on - each one unique. I've yet to decide on the structures for the rest, but this Coptic one is absolutely ideal for wedding guest book use as it stays open on its own and people won't have to look for the right page to sign.

The sheen of the satin stitch on this piece is such a lovely detail and I never tire of the look of Coptic stitching on a spine... I hope to have this available in my shop later this week. You can also contact me for enquiries as always.

I hope you all have a great Thursday! I'll see you here on Saturday when I'm once again sharing some of my vintage accumulations with you!
